All Arthur references aside, we'd like to wish a huge congratulations to MLC's PR Coordinator Kristina Kelly!
For the second year in a row, her very hard work is being honored at the ALA PR Xchange Awards. These awards showcase library public relations materials, like videos, newsletters, and posters. Kristina has shown a flair for bringing a dash of zaniness to her video creations that the judges love. Her video entry Sharks in the Library was the only winner from Mississippi this year. It won the "Materials Promoting Collections, Services, Resources" category for MLC's budget section, $10- $15 million.
Kristina says, "I am very happy to be able to promote non-traditional library services in a unique and non-traditional manner and I am very grateful to have staff members who are willing to help out making these videos promoting our special collections."
The video features an inflatable shark, which is part of a large collection of inflatable costumes that MLC circulates to Mississippi public libraries. They have been used for all sorts of programs across the state and have been wildly popular. Inflatable costumes include the shark, dinosaurs, unicorns, and other animals, as well as Christmas-themed outfits like Christmas trees and gingerbread men. Libraries can contact MLC's Special Collections Coordinator Charlie Simpkins at csimpkins at mlc.lib.ms.us for more information about costume loans.
Kristina work at MLC focuses on creating videos to promote the agency and libraries throughout the state, producing MLC's quarterly newsletter On the Same Page, and assisting public libraries with PR needs.
Her short, Beyond the Virtual Table: MLC's Resources at a Glance tied for the electronic winner in MLC's budget category for the 2022 PR Xchange Awards Competition.
