Herman and Harriet had a simple, but memorable ceremony. I do have questions about the "ceremonial kiss" and just who/what Stenographer Cole implanted it on! Do you think it was Herman? Do you think Harriet got jealous?

With this rubber band, I thee wed.
We are constantly looking through old newspapers on microfilm for one bit of information or another. While searching the New York Times a couple of weeks ago for some information, I stumbled upon this lovely little wedding story. I was glad to read it being that the topic I was researching was a bit more grisly (murder). This story ran in the New York Times in late October of 1899.
