Dear readers,
About twenty minutes ago I received a phone call from Ms. Gloria Montiel from the Embassy of Paraguay (now that's a sentence I never thought I'd write). Ms. Montiel assured me that dueling is in fact illegal in Paraguay regardless of organ or blood donor status. After receiving her phone call I immediately wrote to the publishers of The New York Public Library Desk Reference for comment.
Stay tuned!

Some days ago I found another article posted and speaking of Paraguay, it surprised me the next affirmation "Interesting fact: Paraguay is one of the few countries in the modern world where dueling, or fighting to the death, is still legal (provided both participants are registered organ donors!)".
ReplyDeleteWhere or who started this rumor that became a "fact" for so many? I don't know. But I thought, maybe I should do something about this and take down that myth.
I first wrote to that article's writer and she replied me among other things: "I can assure you that information is available from and can be confirmed by multiple sources". But once again, she didn't showed to me those sources.
Then I contacted with this blog and fortunately they followed up and answered my request. Same day I also chat with a librarian in NYPL (New York Public Library) wich after doing some research sent me next email:
"Hello,
As promised we're following up. What we found is a lot of sites claiming the same "fact" but none of them cite a source. There is no evidence supporting the claim that duelling is legal in Paraguay and the consulate also says it isn't, so our conclusion is that you are correct and the uncited sources are wrong. So remember, no duelling in Paraguay."
Well I guess it's all said :)
